#194 Ten of Quills

The choppy seas rocked the boat so vigorously men were thrown overboard, and the lower deck was never dry.

At night Lessida paced the ship while grown men snored beneath her. The threat of nightmares wouldn’t let her rest.

A wet hand grabbed her by the wrist and spun her in place. “You shouldn’t be up here, miss. Not in your condition.”

He glanced at her nightgown, open from the wind whipping about them. A scar where her heart should be, held closed by a row of haphazard stitches.

She closed her gown in embarrassment. Tears mixing with the sea.
