“Bring out the kid,” she clucked. We heard the rattling of chains, then a boy with shackles around his wrists and ankles appeared, led by two lizard guards.

“What’s the meaning of this? Where did you get him from?”

“Why is it your kind always ask the wrong questions. What you should be wondering is why we felt the need to chain him up. You’ll soon find out.” She gave the signal for the kid to be released, then returned to the safety of her cage.

The kid looked at us with hunger in his eyes and said, “I’m hungry.”
