#019 Your 100 Word Story

Letā€™s get this weekend write-life started! From this Friday forward, Iā€™ll include an image prompt and a few words to get your brain percolating towards a story. But only if you need it! Write whatever sparks joy for you.

Hereā€™s how:

  • Exactly 100 words. Not 99 or 101. The Word Count Police are tracking!

  • Genre? Writerā€™s choice! So long as you give us all the thrills and the feels.

  • To Fic or to Non-Fic? You decide. What matters most is that youā€™re satisfied with the output.

  • Copy/paste your words in the comments, then share on your own Substack, and maybe, share to social media!

  • A Note on Substack Notes | Click the šŸ”„ ā€œRestack with a Noteā€ and copy/paste your story for added reach and growth.

In a land of fairies, anything is possible. Take this place, for instance. I wonder what secrets we could uncover and who we might meet during our visit.

In the realm of Fairy Land, a curious phenomenon unfolded. Blue butterflies, with wings like sapphires, roamed, casting their magical hue across the land, each butterfly possessed a unique talent.

One mischievous butterfly named Zigzag could alter the size of objects with a flap of his wings. Another, Sparkle, could conjure tiny fireworks at will. And then there was Whirlwind, who created playful gusts of wind.

Fairy folk marveled at their enchanting antics, for these butterflies brought laughter and wonder to the land. The fairies learned that sometimes, it’s the little joys that make life truly magical in Fairy Land.

The cliff top was deserted as I braced myself against a warm, frisky head on wind.

A young man approached, walking downwind and quickly towards me. His anorak zipped, hood up, head down, hands in pockets.

He appeared strangely intent and I thought, ā€˜a man on a mission!ā€™

He walked past me, without averting his concentrated gaze, resolute on reaching his destination.

He passed, I looked momentarily down the fifty meter cliff face, waves crashed violently over the pebble beach and concrete sea walk and then, immediately understanding, after the young manā€¦

But the cliffs were already desertedā€¦

In a land of fairies, a lone sprite named Lila was born wingless. Deemed incomplete, she was often overlooked. One twilight, a tempest roared, threatening to wipe the fairy realm. Panicked fairies struggled to stay airborne amidst gusty winds. Lila, however, danced gracefully on the ground, channeling her unique energy. As she danced, luminous flowers sprouted, forming a protective barrier. The storm passed, leaving the realm untouched. The once-mocked sprite became their savior. In a realm where anything was possible, Lila taught them that sometimes, the seemingly impossible could be the most wondrous of all.
