#017 Your 100 Word Story

Let’s get this weekend write-life started! From this Friday forward, I’ll include an image prompt and a few words to get your brain percolating towards a story. But only if you need it! Write whatever sparks joy for you.

Here’s how:

  • Exactly 100 words. Not 99 or 101. The Word Count Police are tracking!

  • Genre? Writer’s choice! So long as you give us all the thrills and the feels.

  • To Fic or to Non-Fic? You decide. What matters most is that you’re satisfied with the output.

  • Copy/paste your words in the comments, then share on your own Substack, and maybe, share to social media!

  • A Note on Substack Notes | Click the 🔄 “Restack with a Note” and copy/paste your story for added reach and growth.

IMAGE PROMPT

What mysteries are waiting to be found at the end of the tunnel? Where was this tunnel discovered? Who is walking (or running) to find its exit?

So many possibilities to choose from. Which will you decide…

REMINDER: You don’t have to write your story just on Fridays! Take this sentiment and free write all weekend long!

Enjoying these weekly emails? Don’t forget to read the submissions in the comments section and share this post with your friends!

    Title: The Serpents’ Wisdom

I saw them, Buck,” Ross said.

    “Saw what?”

“The snakes. The serpents. They told me a lot of things. They are enlightening stuff. Very… enlightening.”

“Slow down, Ross,” Buck said. “It’s the pharmakeia fucking with your brain.”

“I don’t think so,” replied Ross. “I’ve been stuck for so long. I’ve wondered how we can make something that’ll go faster-than-light. Something that would honestly break the laws of fucking physics. But these serpents told me the answer. I would never have seen it were it not for them, Buck. They only asked me one thing in return.”

    “What?”

    “Your life, Buck.”

    Hi Erica and Debs, Barrie,

Here’s my morsel of thought. This Friday’s story of mine is called,

    Face of an angel.

A true story in 100 words. Inspired from a journey last autumn from Leeds. A lesson in never judge a book by its cover.

City bus station. White corrugated roof. Concrete ground. Stern-faced bus driver of sixty plus, hair combed in thick gel. Pale faced he packs cases into the hold.

But keys didn’t turn in the ignition.
He appears at the staircase to announce the loos were vandalised.

‘Don’t fret ladies, I’ll wait at the next stop if you need it. Why do they do it? Some spoil it for the rest. Older I get, the closer to nature I feel. We’re all made of the same. Doesn’t hurt nobody to help another. ‘Heart’. It’s an anagram of earth. We’re of one earth.’
    ❤️
