My 50 words will always use the IMAGE PROMPT as inspiration.
I will select my favorite 50 word addition to my story and share it in the following ways:
Substack Notes (you will get tagged as well)
Upcoming First Edition email on December 1st and January 1st (respectively)
If you are up for this challenge scroll to my 50 words BENEATH the IMAGE PROMPT! Good luck!
Let’s get this weekend write-life started! From this Friday forward, I’ll include an image prompt and a few words to get your brain percolating towards a story. But only if you need it! Write whatever sparks joy for you.
Here’s how:
Exactly 100 words. Not 99 or 101. The Word Count Police are tracking!
Genre? Writer’s choice! So long as you give us all the thrills and the feels.
To Fic or to Non-Fic? You decide. What matters most is that you’re satisfied with the output.
Copy/paste your words in the comments, then share on your own Substack, and maybe, share to social media!

A 100 WORD STORY COLLABORATION
[MY 50 WORDS]
We’ve had this factory under surveillance for several weeks now. We’ve even got a man on the inside. Well, by man, we mean woman. Her name is Natasha and she is the new floor supervisor. The perfect insider we needed to get to the bottom of what’s really going on.
Write your 50 words to follow mine, then copy/paste them into the comments. Be sure to put “[My 50 Words]” first so I know it’s an official entry.
Enjoying these weekly emails? Don’t forget to read the submissions in the comments section and share this post with your friends!
I’m currently tasking myself to write more as I prep for another book. So obviously, I fkn adore this. Ok here goes.
[MY 50 WORDS]
It’s no surprise that none of the workers have noticed Natasha. Her quiet presence matches her petite frame. But nothing could have prepared her for what happened this week. She thought that the constant humming of the machinery would distract her but the white noise led her to something wild.
[My 50 Words]
Yesterday she reported another worker missing. They clock in never out. That makes ten now. Today Natasha found the bodies in a storage room with a boombox playing. My wedding song with our picture as promised. A body for each year. Written on the back of the photo “she’s next.”
(my 50 words)
The yellow signage gleamed in the sun, mimicking the shade of the tattered paper she held in her hands.
She watched as the ingredients poured into the machine, her foot on the red emergency button next to the floor.
“That’s why,” Natasha said, looking in the mixer.
“Too much sugar.”
[my 50 words]
Then corporate cracked down hard. We weren’t prepared. She got caught, and we didn’t hear about it until the paper. Natasha Lemon: dead beside the road, no next of kin. I kept our marriage secret, you see. No one will ever know that in her memory, I always wear meringue.
Well, by bottom, we mean bottoms. Bottoms of all shapes and sizes. The hooter sounded fully one hour before shift end. Natasha’s brow furrowed. As the workers disrobed, all was revealed. Rumours of a custard hot tub proven true; she had got to the bottom of it. She undressed quickly.
This writing prompt was fun.
{My 50 Words}
Natasha’s warm smile and welcoming deep brown eyes put a lot of people at ease. She didn’t let her military background and growing years of experience as an undercover detective harden her heart, which showed through her personality, captivating the factory workers with her demeanor and quickly making new friends.
